Intuition, Discernment, and Empathic Abilities: My Life Experiences and Inner Knowing

Understanding the difference between intuition, discernment, and empathic abilities can be challenging—especially if you try to process these terms solely with your logical mind. For years, I struggled with this too. But once I stopped trying to analyze with my brain and instead allowed myself to feel what was true for me, clarity arrived through experience.

In our 3D world, we are taught to label, measure, and define everything; categories, numbers, and logic. But as I awakened and shifted into heart-based awareness, I learned to rely on my inner knowing. Once you begin to live through your heart space, everything becomes clear; not through thought, but through feeling.

The Evolution of My Understanding: 2016 and Beyond

In 2016, during the early phase of my awakening, I had deep spiritual conversations with a close friend. We wrestled with defining intuition and discernment, attempting to assign them dictionary meanings. But then she introduced me to muscle testing; a tool to bypass the brain and tap into the body's wisdom. She taught me that our physical bodies already hold the truth of all things because we are Source energy. All we need to do is trust.

This was the first time I could feel what was good or bad for me, using my own fingers as sensors; no mental effort needed. And that began my journey in distinguishing between intuition and discernment.

My Working Definitions

  • Intuition is your inner guidance system. It is your connection to the Divine; whether you call it Source, God, Higher Self, Inner Child, the Void, the Universe, or Oneness. It is that gentle inner knowing or sense of direction that arises spontaneously without conscious thought.

  • Discernment is the act of making a clear decision or judgment based on what your body (and energy field) is telling you in a given moment. Muscle testing is one method of discernment.  Using physical cues (e.g., finger strength or muscle response) to receive "yes" or "no" answers from your body consciousness.

To explain it with an analogy: Your intuition is the cloud where all the data and wisdom reside. Discernment is your tool (e.g., fingers/muscles) to pull that data down into a form your 3D self can interpret.

Evolving into Empathic Abilities

As I practiced muscle testing over time, something unexpected happened; I began to outgrow the need for it. I developed deeper empathic abilities, which allowed me to sense truth and guidance directly through feelings and body sensations.

I no longer needed my fingers to determine truth.  I just knew. I would feel chills, I had tears and  warm or cold sensations, or surges of energy that confirmed answers to my questions. My body became the translator for divine messages.

How I Use These Gifts Every Day

These skills now guide me moment to moment, and they have saved me countless times:

  1. Safety and Protection:
When my heart flutters or I feel a sudden sensation, I pause. If I am driving, I pull over. I look, listen, feel, and wait. Often, a potential danger passes quietly. It is like waiting for a storm to roll through.

  2. Energy Discernment Around People:
At work or in social situations, I can feel who is energetically toxic or draining. I do not need to analyze.  My energy field tells me immediately who is aligned and who is not.

  3. Environmental Sensitivity:
Whether walking into a building or standing in nature, I can feel if the energy is dense or light. If a place feels heavy.  I limit my time there or clear my energy after.

At first, I ignored these intuitive nudges, until I paid the price. Over time, I became finely tuned to these signals. I now stop instantly, breathe, ground, and wait for the shift. These gifts allow me to navigate life with greater peace and clarity.

From Muscle Testing to Mastery

It took me nearly a decade to refine these skills. For anyone just starting their journey, I recommend beginning with muscle testing to build confidence in your body’s ability to guide you. Over time, with patience and practice, your empathic and intuitive gifts will naturally awaken.

Final Thoughts

We are not meant to live only from the mind. The deeper truths of our soul, safety, and purpose are felt -not thought. Once you allow yourself to listen to your own body, heart, and energy, without external interference, you begin to step into your true power.
